Hi,

I started using catia v4 r2.2 only a few months ago. I need to produce true threads in a space model. Can anyone walk me through this one? All the people that I have asked claim that it can only be shown in a draw window. Please help.

Set up a thread cross section at the beginning of the thread in a plane that includes the hole of fastener center line. Create a point at the tip of the thread cross section. Use CURVE2 HELIX and pick the center line as the axis of rotation and the point. I believe you need a start angle, end angle, and pitch. Play around with the helix command. Sometimes you need to make your angles negative to get the helix going the right direction. Next create a plane normal to your fastner or hole center line and through the point used to generate your helix. Create a circle using the intersection of the plane and center line as your circle center and through the point use to generate the helix. Use SURF1 DEPTH and create a cylindrical surface that the helix is on. Then use SOLIDE SWEEP pick the thread cross section, pick the helix as a spine and pick the surface to create the orientation. This should give you a solid you can subtract to make your thread.

Remeber this for the next time you need to model a spring
