I'm new to steel plate girder design( for bridges). I'm designing a two span continuous straight steel girder bridge.
I know the plate dimension( thicknesss and width or depth) needs to be sized according to the moment diagram distribution. could anybody here give me some tips how you designate the segments for the plate giders( each segment has its dimension that satisfy the stress limits within the location per moment diagram). I'm using Merlin Dash. I see Merlin Dash has a "design" function. but I'm not sure how the program is going to handle the design, what input I need to provide( design controls) in order for the program to design the girders. the user guide of MIRLIN DASH does not say specfifically what you need to do when use the "design" function.
