I know this sounds stupid, but when I installed the Solidworks 2003, I set it up for inches, now it's reading metric. Everytime that I go into tools/options/document properties/units and change it over, it works fine for that part, but it is not saving the setting, so I end up having to do this on every part I make.
How do you change the setting, and get it to stay where you put it?

This is a document setting. You should create a template with all the settings as you like them and use this template to create new documents. There is a free download at called copy document options. This is an excel document with embedded macros which will save document options so that you can copy them to future documents. Very handy when you want to change multiple options in multiple files.

Also, don't forget to go to tools/options/default templates to insure you are changing and saving the correct default files.

I had that happen on a SW 2003 installation, too. Normally it remembers what you select during installation and sets up your templates accordingly. (Wonder what makes it switch?)

Yeah, I ran for quite a while without it giving me a problem, then it just up and changed. I know it sounds nuts, but that's exactly what happened. One minute it's in inches, the next it's in metric.

It took me a little while to see what you guys were talking about on the templates, but I've got her figured out now. Works excellent!! Thanks for all the tips.

It doesn't just up and change on its own. Stoker is correct, as a document property it comes in with your template. If it has changed, then your template has changed. Save a new template with the document settings the way you want.

I know it is not a solution to your problem, but while on the subject: Just a reminder that for a few entries of values is different units while modelling you only need to add the unit characters after the number - you don't need to do the math to convert.

Say your current units are inches, you can type in 7.5 mm.
