So far I have only used AutoCAD 2007 to draw in 2D. Now I need to draw some 3D cable layouts inside a chassis and was going to try and use the 3D feature, but don't know how to create the cables. I tried using 3D polyline but when I used PEDIT it did not allow me to change the dia of the polylines. Also, as I picked random points with my cursor to create the polyline I realized that they were all in the same plane when I orbited the drawing. What is the best way to draw 3D cables in AutoCAD?

Are there any freeware programs that will let you draw 3D cables easiser than AutoCAD?

Can you draw 3D cable using Alibre software? Please Help !!

Draw a circle at one end of the polyline.
Use the Sweep command (in Modeling menu).
Select the Circle as the object <enter>
Select the polyline as the path.

One option you might try is the extrude command, but when you are ask to specify the height don't put in a number instead enter "path" ,then select the pline you want to be the cable this should create what you want. The diameter of the cable will be based on the circle you are you are extruding from. All you need to do is place the circle of your selected diameter on your pline and extrude-path that circle and your set.
