How do you show a vertical group band in the column area

I am familiiar with grouping activities, but have not had a reason to show a vertical band for the group. I revisited the example projects and transfered a layout to my current project and that gives me the vertical band. But, I can not find the switch or box that turns it on. Can someone help me. I have been using P3 since 1986 and at one time solved this solution but thats been years and I do not remember. Thanks Chuck
