how do you use other sketches

please help me..im new to inventor(im used to solidworks).

i created a sketch that i plan to use as a layout for the rest of the part. i, however, cant seem to get inventor to use the first sketch. it wont allow me to constrain points to it. what can i do?

If I understand you correctly, you would just have to project the initial sketch to the new sketch you are working on.

You can also make an entire assembly based off a single sketch. The process is called SKELETAL Modeling. It is a very neat process to control an entire assembly from a single sketch. has two nice tutorials about the process (among other great tutorials). Sean's a great resource...he also has a discussion forum on his site.
