hi guys!
i wanna ask the importants of compact section and non-compact section in steel design. as per the AISC 360-10 Table B4-1a to B4-1b we can determine if section is compact and non-compact.
it is safe if i let my section be non-compact for a medium rise building because if i make it all compact, the bigger section i get in result the heavier my structure is, specially when i need to satisfy the Seismic Provision of AISC 341-05 Sec. 8.2b.
In ETABS 2013 these provision is applied if your framing is under SMF and IMF. it is possible to control the seismically compact and non-compact section in ETABS even without adjusting the section?
thanks,
JC
