As an engineer, I have found myself in this kind of situation in many meetings.

Most of you have experienced similar situations because you too are an 'Expert'.

However, if you don't understand this video, or cannot fathom the humor, then, maybe you are not the 'Expert' within your organization. [smile]

"An 'expert' is anyone 50 miles from home with a briefcase."

But the video reminds me of the meetings that I've been in as personified by all those Dilbert cartoons, of which this is my favorite:

That video has been posted in the Pub twice already, but it's still funny

hahahahaha. Thanks for posting that video again. The only fiction in that video is the portrayal of the manager remaining polite.

Actually, the only oddity that I saw was the expert being Asian, but he does have a Western name; I'm Asian, so no worries. But the two managers' behaviors mirror that of some managers I've come across. While I have had managers that are relatively realistic, when they're sufficiently hungry, they will tend to go after contracts for talking horses; after all, the horse might actually talk ("I can do anything. After all, I'm an expert") after we get the contract.

yeah, managers that have economic background can be like that, in my experience (in tech companies - ceo of a small company in my case).
that's why there is a culture of promotion from within in german companies.

I am experiencing this right now - Client wants to build a project in a cold but maritime climate. Wants LEED Platinum, and the LEED enabler consultant insists on an energy target of half of what the built to code building would get. The architectural design based on the Client leasing requirements are floor to ceiling glass (over 85% window to opaque wall ratio), double glazed low iron clear glass on all four facades, and it has to be built for a tight budget. I seem to be the only one in the room saying "you can't there from here". As the MEP Engineer, I am the expert expected to achieve these targets by somehow bending the laws of physics to suit marketing the building, the LEED Enablers, and the open transparent aesthetic of the architect. Sigh.....a test of my diplomatic skills.
