Hello

I want to know how is the process to forming tubular components with steel material 22MnB. This component diameter (diameter 100 mm/thickness3.8mm /lenght 600mm) is transformed (with stamping tools)to a "U" shape. this component works under torsional cases. it is an automotive torsional beam for a rear suspension

Where can i have information to know how design the process (tooling steps) to forming this tube totally in a "U" shape.

Can any one help me? There is no much information for this type of components.

Thank you very much

The SME Die Design Handbook may be of help, but it also covers a lot of material that may never be of interest to you. See if you can borrow a copy.

Additionally, the people who sell tube forming equipment can be helpful, especially if they think you might someday buy some. Don't lie to them, though; just ask your question... or better, ask a series of questions that might lead you toward composing a better question.

One problem with your question as posed is that 'stamping tools' are not ordinarily used for tube bending; 'tube bending' or 'tube forming' tools are, and there are a lot of them.

One other problem with your question is that the automotive market's volumes can support very specialized and unusual tooling. I'm sure you can appreciate that making, say, ten parts once, is very different from making ten thousand parts every working day.
