Hello all.

I was wondering if someone could answer these questions:
How do radio and remote control (IR) work?
How can I change the frequency of the transmitter or program the transmitter to do what I want?
How does the receiver work?
How can I program or manipulate remote controls (IR)?
Please be specific if you can answer. Thanks.

Providing a coherent answer to your questions takes about four years, and normally requires the expenditure of more than $100,000 in tuition.

Oddly, you were required to certify that you had already done that in order to gain access here. Perhaps you under-represented the state of your education?

OR,

Google, "except there is no cat." and work from there.

Mike - unfortunately I know a lot of EE graduates from good schools who would post these same questions after completing their undergrad degrees. Especially when the schools have one analog class in their curriculum to get a BSEE; very sad.

Newbie,

You can search Wikipedia for a good introduction. That may allow you to come back with more specific questions that we can help with.

An evaluation board for a micro-controller with a photo-detector (receiver) and a light emitting diode (LED - transmitter) will give you a great start on exploring this area of electronics. Google "IR transceiver evaluation".
