How should I work with 2D lines that were converted from .DXF to PRT ?

Hello guys:

I am having some small problems dealing with 2D lines that were converted from .dxf to .prt and I am using NX5. I am finding it difficult to manipulate these lines such as if I offset one line and try and delete the other both lines get erased or if I add a line across an existing line I can’t trim it.

So how do you handle something like this in NX?

Try some of the following:
Expanding the view

going into view style and setting the extracted edges to associative

inserting a sketch into view and then going to insert - sketch - existing curves

Thanks for the input, though I was only able to find one marginal tool to help, and that was in edit->curve but this way seemed like days gone by.

I am working in modeling and I will need to extrude this sketch, and they do extrude fine; I just need an effective tool to move lines around, like the ones available in sketcher.

Create a new sketch and use 'Add Existing Curves' to import the curves and now you can manipulate them just like they were created there in the first place.

Using your offset example, make sure the Offset doesn't have the Associative box checked prior to creating it. You might have to expand one of the dialog menus in order to see it. It's usually under Settings. This is probably why both of your curves were deleted. If you're going to delete the base curve (original), there should be a setting for what to do with it after the offset (keep, replace, delete, blank). I believe all of this can be set via the Customer Defaults, which I'd strongly recommend you go through and get set the way you want before more questions arise.

John, thanks for that info that will make life much easier!

Tim there is so much stuff to adjust there in Customer Defaults that its hard to say at this time what to set. But thanks for you advise, and trust me I take notes! But yeah so far I have made some adjustments and all and all I am liking NX5 a lot!
