Hi,

managed to explode an assembly in the Modeling side but I can't figure out how to add this exploded view into the drawing of the assy. So.. howto?

Is the explosion created in the drawing file?

NX5 -> NX8.5
I-deas 12, NX I-deas6.3
Solid Works 2009 and 2012

Yes, while in the drawing mode I went to modeling mode via Ctrl-M and made the explosion there.

Did you save a new view for the explosion? Not required, though good practice.
Either way, activate the explosion and add a base view of the exploded view. If you created a new view (let's say exp-assem, add a base view and pick exp-assem from the list of available views).

I noticed this approach works, when you have just the model open and enter Drafting mode. But, in our case, we are TeamCenter connected and need to have the drawing as a separate item. Then under the drawing there is the model in the Assembly Navigator.

I am starting to think that this kind of NX+Tc approach does not allow exploded views. Please confirm that I am wrong..

The explosion needs to be created in the drawing file (or drawing item, if you like) not the master file (model item).

So, while in the drawing file:[ol 1]
[li]switch to modeling application, if necessary[/li]
[li]orient the view as you want for the explosion[/li]
[li]save the view, make it the work view if necessary[/li]
[li]create new explosion, explode components as desired[/li]
[li]switch to drafting application[/li]
[li]add exploded view to drawing as a base view[/li]
[/ol]

Hi cowski,

tried your approach, but I don't see my freshly created view in the Base View -> Model View drop down list. In that list, I only see views that I've created directly in the model item.

We are on NX 8.5 and TC 9.

The list only shows model views from the masterpart by default.

Select the drafting file under Part section of the Base View dialog.

Now your model view will show up in the Model View section of the Base View dialog.

Thanks matnas, changing the part into the draft version worked!

I would like to suggest the use of arrangments instead of doing the exploded tool in the master drafting file. So you would have an Exploded arrangment with all the parts exploded out.
the only Fall back is the trace lines you will have to sketch in 2D drafting view.
