how to assess the performance of bus bays?

I am trying to assess the performance of bus bays of bus stops and their influence to the traffic stream but so far I have only been able to estimate the capacity and demand and compared the two. Now am trying to look for a performance measure of trying to assess its influence to the traffic stream but so far I have not been successful, help needed please.

Seems to me that statistical measures like mean, max, and min traffic speeds with and without a bus in the bay would be of interest. Are there increased incidences of accidents when buses are present? My personal experience is that bus drivers do not necessarily go completely into these bays and tend to protrude into the traffic lane, resulting in traffic attempting to get around them, slowing down, and possibly protruding into the next lane of traffic, thereby increasing the probability of an accident.
