Hi,recently i was doning Abaqus python scripting about calculating K of a single edge cracked plate, my model is 2D and the mesh was required to be TRI (CPS6) around the crack tip region, and QUAD (CPS8) for the rest, however, i do not know how to select the crack tip regions after partition. I would be very gratefull if anybody experienced in Abaqus scripting can offer me some advice. The screenshot shows the partition state of my model and the mesh part of my script.

Best regards.

The crack tip is probably a vertex. When you don't know the index of the vertex, then you can use findAt().

Mustain thank u for your response, however, it seem i can hardly understand. I have tried to use the findAt function to choose the crack tip area to define the singularity region, but i failed. can you please be more detailed, i want to define the cracktip mesh to be CPS6, while in the other region to be CPS8

You have to be more specific what you want to do. Do you want to get the vertex to do something with it or do you want to get the surfaces around the vertex to influence the mesh?

thank you for replying, the thing that i want to do is to assign a specific element type cps6 to the crack tip region, but i have no idea about the method
