Hi guys,

Is there a formula for calculating the optimum amount of power for X gauge wire and X number of turns? I'm curious if there's a better method than my method of wildly guessing.

On one side of the balance you have field strength, and on the other heat dissipation.
Is it air core or iron core? That matters also.
Get the book.

With an iron core you are also limited by saturation of the core.
Duty cycle is very important when looking at power consumption/heat dissipation.
There are other books also, but most of the good ones that I know of were published before 1950.

Only $1,295.00 used on Amazon.

If you buy it, let us know how good it is, seems like they just scanned an old one and print it on demand.
