I've read Moss Pressure Vessel Design Manual about design of Vessel's Saddle. To calculate minimum width of saddle at top, Moss suggest to use formula like in my attachment. But the problem is, what is Fb and h ?

Moss said that Fb is allowable bending stress, how I get it ? is it same with allowable stress ?

and how about h? Moss didn't said anything about it or did I miss something ?

Thankss

formula from Moss Pressure Vessel Design Manual, procedure 3-11, page 179.

Hi,

Usually for the support structures the value used for Fb is 0.6Fy, this is based on AISC Manuals, if you take a look on other procedures on the same book you will find some information about this.

Can't help you with the h dimension though.
