I suggest you refer to Peters And Timmerhaus to get an idea on pipe and other related matters costing.
Title "Plant design and economics for chemical engineers"

You can also find info on the cost indecies from chemical eng.forum.

Psozot!

3.142*Dia.*Length*thickness*7843 will give you weight of pipe in Kgs provided you put the values of Diameter, length and thickness in meters. 7843 Kg/Cu.M is the density of steel.

As for cost you cannot apply any thumb rule, atleast that is what I feel.

THANKS QUARK. BUT HOW CAN I KNOW THICKNESS OF VARIOUS SIZES OF MS PIPES OF SCHEDULE 40. FOR MS SHEETS YOUR FORMULA IS OK AS I THEY ARE AVAILABLE IN STANDERED THICKNESS OF 6mm,8mm ETC BUT FOR MS PIPE e.g 24 INCH DIA PIPE WITH LENGTH 200M. HOW TO CALCULATE. PLS EXPLAIN WITH EXAMPLE. I WILL BE VERY THANKFUL

psozot,

The pipe wall thickness is also standardized. You may ask the manufacturers or check their catalogs.

NPS 24" Sch. 40 : t = 17.5 mm.

Psozot!

Thickness of pipelines as per schedule number is standard as PAN has already mentioned. The OD of same size pipe is same even if the schedule number changes. Only thickness changes so does inner diameter.

For 24" pipe OD is 609.6mm and thickness is 17.45 mm. So ID is 574.7 mm. Take the average of diameters, which is 592.15mm. Now the weight is 3.142*0.59215*0.01745*200*7843 = 50926 kgs. The following web page will be of use to you.
