Hi everybody,
I’m a mechanical engineer, I‘m working at an engineering design office. Our customer requires a meshing team within our company without any specification about the meshing tools (we have the choice to buy the adequate software, the only condition is that our mesh have to be a universal file (UNV file) ).
We know that there are 2 known software, which are I-DEAS and Hypermesh.
According to your experiences, which one is more powerful and more used than the other?
PS: Hypermesh can export surface and volume mesh to a UNV format, but we don’t know if the welding mesh and some other things can be exported too.

Thanks a lot for your help.

Hi ENCHTAIN!

We are using both I-Deas and Hypermesh at my workplace, but I cannot give you an advice of want you should use since I don't know what kind of mesh, and for what type of parts you will be using them. I tend to belive that regardles of that Hypermesh is a more powerfull overall preprocessor. Are you sure that HM can export .unv (I-Deas Universal file) files?

Hi lutecare,
Thank you for responding me. The components that our customer need to be meshed are a part of automotive (example: the door, the roof, .....).
According to the technical and functional specification, the parts will be meshed with quad. element, the geometry have to be cleaned before meshing (some fillets will be deleted from the geometry, also some holes...).
Parts contain some welds which have to be meshed too....
As for the ability of HM to export .unv files, I am not quite sure of that, but according to my friend (he works at another engineering office), HM can export a mesh to a lots of software such as I-deas (see the screenshot attachment, templates of some software used by HM to export meshes).
If this information is wrong, thank you to inform me.
If you need further information, notify me.
Good evening.
