Hello everyone,

I am solving one contact problem. I need to use soft pressure - over closure relationship i.e. soft contact. The problem is that slave surface penetrates into the Master surface if soft contact is used. So can somebody suggest me how to control penetration of slave surface into master surface for soft contact relationships?
Thank you in advance,

Nik

What exactly have you defined?
With a exponential behavior you have to adjust the parameter for the pressure at zero clearance.

Dear Mustaine3,
Thanks for your reply!
I am trying to model non-linear relationship between Pressure and Overclosure. The graph of the relation is attached as .jpg file. I tried to use nonlinear penalty method with "hard contact" in Abaqus, but in that slope of the initial graph should be smaller than the slope of the final graph. But my case is exactly opposite, I need very high slope initially and small slope later on. Hence non-linear penalty method is not a good choice for me. I then tried piecewise linear method, in which I am using Tabular data for pressure-over closure relation ship. But for this soft contact, problem is I am getting significant penetration of slave surface into the master surface. Any ideas on how to model pressure-over closure relationship shown in the graph, without significant penetration of slave surface into the master surface would be highly appreciated,
Thanks in advance,

Nik

Also, I tried some simulations with Linear Penalty " Hard contact " method. The idea was to determine reasonable contact stiffness so that I can approximately model above non-linear relation with linear behavior. But in that case also, as my contact stiffness decreases, penetration between two surfaces is increasing. So any suggestion on how to decrease penetration for linear penalty hard contact without increasing stiffness values would also be appreciated.

Thanks!

Nik
