I am trying to convert some files over to a .stp format for another group in our company. I am using the export option. I can figure out how to convert the file, and NX4 looks like it is working on the conversion, it brings up a seperate window and shows the conversion, but what is it doing with the output? I have looked high and low for an output file or to change where it is saving the output and cannot find it anywhere. Any ideas here??????

Thanks,

Click on "Specify Part 21 File" while in the export operation to direct it.

File>Export>Step203 or Step214

For the differences between Step203 and Step214 I could refer you below for detailed information. However the basic version is that the latter converts assemblies while the former does not.

You can convert either in batch mode using dialogs found for Windows systems, under Start>NX-?>Translators. Or as most people do you can go straight from out of NX using File>Export.

For a single part I would select the Solid that I wanted to export. Step only takes bodies not curves, points, planes etc. Always take care to specify the output file as mentioned previously. By default on many newly installed systems it may get output into the UGII root directory where it will no doubt be hard to find.

If you're having problems Step produces a log file that may help you diagnose whether it is a licensing or installation issue. Otherwise many later duo core systems are able to convert Step so fast that it may have finished in the same time it used to take to fail. It can work so unexpectedly quickly so you just think it failed, and knowing where the output file is put would be the key to checking that you have an actual result.

You should be able to find enough in the documentation to describe the procedure quite thoroughly, so refer to the chapter on translators as required.

If you are exporting out an assembly or componets from an assembly you want to make to that you have the componet opened completely and the reference set set to the one you want. Just thought I'd add that since I forget to do it often.
