Anyone know how to create a 2d geometry in inventor for Algor for and axisymmetric analysis? I have imported 3d models with not problems for standard analysis.... In inventor I have created a sketch on the yx plane then bounded the path for a surface... but when you import it..... Algor thinks this is a 3d model and not just a surface on the yz plane.... I would like to work in 2d to compare results to an outside vendor who did an FEA before...

Create a "region" and export it as IGES. It has been a long time since I used Inventor, but you should be able to draw your 2D geometry and create a region from the boundary by typing "region" and selecting the lines.

Right click the face in Inventor, then select "Export Face As..."

This will let you save the face geometry as a .dxf which can be imported directly into ALGOR as construction lines.

Thanks,
When I open the Dxf in algor, I still get a wire frame3-D objects on the parts tree and will not let me 2d mesh.... any thoughts?

Check to make sure you are in the YZ plane and make sure everything is projected to X=0.

silly question.... but what is an easy way to move construction objects from one plane to another (x,y to the z,y)

thanks... I rotated it about the y axis and all is well now.... thanks for the help....
