Hi,

I would like to create a material database file, for importing materials and their properties into ANSYS Workbench 2021 R2.

-What is the formatting/organization of the material database in the file? I mean, how must the .xml file be, what does it must have, in order to be read correctly by the "Engineering data" module of ANSYS Workbench 2021 R2.

-Is there a sample material database for ANSYS online?

I would like to add Linear Elasticity properties: Young's modulus and Poisson, and Density.

Best regards,
Silva

An easy but laborious option is to create/enter data manually of lets say 5-10 materials into Ansys material library and then export the data in xml format and use this file as source for adding new materials. You will get plenty information about how to use tools like excel, notepad or any other tool you like, to read, write and export xml file format from these tools to vice versa. To export created material data from Ansys to xml, File =>Export engineering data (Suppress materials that are not required). This will export all data that is defined in the current project under engineering data.

Another difficult but quick option is to create xml file from scratch. Search "Importing and Exporting ANSYS Mechanical Loads as XML Files" on PADT site. Lot of information about XML data format and Ansys structure of xml file is provided.

ANSYS can export/import material libraries in .xml format. If you go to the engineering data sources tab of the material window it will list the default material libraries. If you don't click the editing checkmark you can save one of the default material libraries as a new name in a different location to study the formatting by clicking the disk with a pencil over it icon. This should give you a template example of how to format your new material library.
