How to create a pattern along a circular protrusion

Is there a way to create a pattern along the face of a circular protrusion other than sketching it first and using the curve feature that copies it onto the face and then using the normal cutout feature? The problem with that is the further the sketch is from the center the more the pattern changes on the face of the protrusion.

I hope I understand your problem...

If the pattern is copying the same cutout you can use the pattern along curve feature. First create sketches that define the first cutout and the curve that defines the path or paths on the surface of the protrusion. Then use pattern along curve.

Thank you for the advice. I did try that and I dont think that will work for what I am trying to do. Basically I am trying to create a Sin Wave on the ouside of a solid circular protrusion. If you or anyone knows a way to do that, I would greatly appreciate the advice.

From what I understand,… you could use the two parallel faces of the circular protrusion to create the initial and end cutout profiles ( sketches). They suppose to have centers which lie down on the center of protrusion, just rotate the second one (in sketch mode) and after you could use the loft cutout. The end result will be like helical pattern cutout
