How to create new material in library?

We desire to add approximately four new materials to the material library. Does anyone know how to do this?

My only thought is to edit the phys_material.dat file. Is that permitted? a good/poor choice?

The phys_material.dat file can be eddited - I am doing this for our company at the moment. We have pointed UG at a networked copy so we only have to edit one file, not each box individually. Equally, if you get the edit wrong, it hits everyone! Take care with the edit, though. Follow the formatting instructions in the phys_material.dat file.

In editing the .dat file, I found things much easier to keep fields aligned if you turn off the wordwrap format.

Also, don't forget to input parameters in metric units.

If you have a lot of materials to do (as I have....) then you can use Excel to do the formatting. If you do this, first copy the existing materials in (not including the tables), then add the new ones. Save the spreadsheet in .prn format (space delimited). Make sure that there is plenty of space between the columns to get spaces to come through in the .prn file. Then open the .prn in Notepad and cut and paste the lot into the .dat file. Slower if you have only one or 2 to do, but quicker if you have many.
