Hello all,

I have an assembly with a flat structure. I would like to create a sub-assy of a few parts within that structure. Grouping would be fine however I need to ceate a drawing of the sub-assy.

What would be the best approach? The only method I can find is to create a seperate sub-assy of parts, add to existing flate structure, erase dublicate parts then reattach assembly constraints - seems like the long way round.

Thanks for any help or pointers.

You can create a new sub-assy file while in the context of your existing assembly. Then drag the components down to the new sub-assy. Constraints will have to be redone.

As Ben said, moving parts from an upper level to a lower level can be done. However, all the assembly constraints of the lower level assembly will be to upper level references. You will have to redefine every component in the lower level assembly to break those associations. If you don't, you will have to open the upper level assembly first every time or the lower level assembly will fail. So you haven't really wasted much time doing it the way you first suggested.

Another way is to make a family table instance or simplified rep of the current flat assy just for your drawing.
