Hello,

I have this 3D problem which I simplified to 2D. I am trying to figure out how to draw FBD and write all the reactions and moments but somehow can't figure how to do for the supports in between the top and bottom plate. Any help is really appreciated.

Thanks.

Assuming that the drawing is vaguely representative you need to draw 6 free body diagrams. If the vertical hangers are pin jointed at both ends you might get away with 3.

When you've done that and posted it up we'll have a look.

Please find attached. Does this sound right?

The supports in between are pinned (joined by welding) to top lid and bottom lid. I have done three diff FBD's. Please let me know so I resolve the forces and couples.

Your first sketch is terrible. I can't tell what's pinned, fixed, suspended, etc... Draw your sketch as you were taught in you rstrength of material and statics courses.

roco6, need to add the 10N/m distributed load to FBD2. also the loads in the FBDs ... i'll interprete "10*3L*3L/2" as a force 10*3L acting at 3L/2. also in FBD2 ... i'm sure that the fixed end moment is not equal on the two faces ... Ma should be Ma1 and Ma2 ...

roco6 - For some reason I cannot open up either of your images.

Have you since removed the file from your drop box location? - Please repost - thx
