Afternon- I have some drawings which aren't making a lot of sense, one of the viewslooks like it's been based on three points- which points, I don't know.

Now, our supplier (The drawing was originally outsourced) has requested a change to one of the dimensions shown in this view. They don't read 3D CAD or English, so I don't have a lot to go on other than a pretty rough sketch on a drawing view based on ???

So, I need to find out what that view is based on. I know I could re-create it and take measurements from both, then compare them, but is there an easier way?

Cheers

Simon

Hi,
If it is a CATIA drawing and if u have the corresponding 3D from which the views have been generated then you can go to edit...links...the links window specifies the corresponding parts.for the features i dont think there is any option to find out the features from which they have been generated. All the best.

I think the view projection plane is just used at the time of view creation. It's not dynamically linked - so if that planar face were no longer in the model then the view would still update because it doesn't matter after the view has already been created.

In other words, there is no way to determine what planar face a view was generated from because drawing views are not dynamically linked to the 3D model feature used for the view creation.

You can always right-click on the view and select "Modify Projection Plane", then select the planar face that you think was used for the view's creation and see if anything changes.

you can find the 3d plane of the view by script using GetProjectionPlane method

it is true that the view plane is not link with geometry. if geometry is moved or deleted, the view plane is not affected.
