How to force ANSYS to "see" all system memory available

Hi all,

Problem: recently upgraded PC config to 3GB RAM in order to handle heavy problems. OS is Win XP sp2, and it correctly recognizes the RAM. ANSYS doesn't see all the available RAM, though: it gives fatal mem error when ram occupancy reaches approximatively 1GB.

Question: how to force ANSYS to use all possible physical memory available?

Note: "/3GB" switch inside boot.ini is already initialized. Even trying and use "-m" switch in ANSYS launcher doesn't help: the max allowed total workspace is limited to 1500 MB (but why ???)

Thanks in advance to anybody who will be able to throw some light on this problem...

cbrn,

With 32 bit processing as provided by Windows XP you will not be able to address all your 3GB of RAM I'm afraid. To do that you need to go to a 64 bit OS.

Hi Jordonlaw,

not correct, I'm afraid: already seen ANSYS 10 running correctly on Dual-Xeon + 32bit Win XP + 3 GB RAM with problems occupying about 2.2 GB physical RAM and without paging to disk. The problem is that the user doesn't remember any particular setting done during the setup of ANSYS on his machine...
Btw, 32bits OS have an adressing space of 4GB; Win XP can handle up to 4GB as well, but without the /3GB switch only 2GB are reserved for "non-Win" processes.
