Situation:

I'm trying to create a chassis of a stereo. There are a lot of small repeat parts within the chassis that are repeated, and it would take ages to remodel all of them. I would like to put them into a catalog, but when I try this, it only works in the product workspace. Can someone please help? How do i put them into the catalog so that they will be insertable into a catpart?

Hi,

You really should build your assembly in a CATProduct, not a CATPart.

if you REALLY want to go the wrong way then you should consider PowerCopies or User Defined Features. Check the online DOC about those options.

Unfortunatly this has to be a part file, and I'll look into it. If anyone else has any suggestions, please help. Thank you.

A Power Copy may be what you are looking for - it allows you to copy a feature (like, a sketch, or a Pad, and all the contributing subfeatures) and paste it over and over again. Read the help on Power Copies; there are some important hints about what type of sketch (positioned vs sliding) to use when preparing to create a Power Copy.

You can also use Pattern.

Here's another suggestion: If it must be a single CATPart, try making it as a Product, then use Create CATPart from Product (Assy Design, under Tools pull down)

catiajim, never knew of the feature, i'll run it past the team, and see if its feasible

catiajim, the feature creates a dumb solid out of it. I may just have to stick with products within products. :(

Using CATProducts is definitely the best option if you can do it.
