Is the a variable environment to set all menus to be expanded by default in NX5 or NX6 ?

Not as such that I know of but you can expand them as you like and save a role file for that setting so that you could alternate between a usual role with a fewer menus and a fuller one with everything expanded.

The system provides typical and advance roles as system saved settings. I'm not sure whether you can change or add to those in the roles tab so that changing between versions of preferences that you've pre-defined yourself as saved role files can more quickly and easily be used.

I did come across this variable but have not tested it :

UGII_NO_FOLDED_MENUS=1

Thanks for your both answers, but:

1°) I already tried with roles but the menus remain folded
Even It could work, It's time consuming to create all NX features with menus expanded

2°) The variable UGII_NO_FOLDED_MENUS doesn't work

Didier,

you could also try the NX way, right mouse button click on the menu bar, go to Customize. Choose the Options tab, then on top there's a check box which stated "Always Show Full Menus". If you got the "Save roles on save" option enabled it should be permanent. Applecable for each user seperate.

With best regards,

Michaël

Michaël,

Thanks for your contribution, but you are wrong because this tab is only for the main menu: File, Edit, View...
By this way, I found that the variable UGII_NO_FOLDED_MENUS grayed out this tab !!!

"File, Edit, View..." these are the menus!

Are you talking about the dialog boxes for feature creation?

If you're simply talking about the pull down menus along the top of the screen File, Edit, View... etc then try clicking in the grey space surrounding the icons, go down to the bottom of the panel that appears and select "cusomize", then under the Options tab click ON "always show full menus".

We may earlier have misread the intent of your question.

NO, there is NO way to force ALL of the dialogs to be fully expanded. If you wish to see them expanded, you need to expand them yourself and then with Dialog Memory active between sessions, they will remain as such.

And please, don't ask us to add such an option as it will not be considered.

In fact, we are constantly being asked to make dialogs smaller and more compact, not larger. The use of closed or and even hidden sections of dialogs is our attempt at allowing users to 'customize' the amount of content which is exposed as it's unreasonable to expect that ANY single user, or for that matter, even any one company to need to have full access to ALL dialog options of EVERY dialog in NX. There are literally thousands of dialog options and settings across the width and breadth of NX and to think that there is something to be gained by seeing them all on demand is, in all honesty, hard to fathom.

Didier,

If they aren't staying as you left them from one session to the next then something is wrong.

Hi,

I agree with you, and my customer doesn't want to ask you to add this option.
We know the switch "Dialog Memory active between sessions" and it works but It save also the numeric value.
It was just a question.

Hi John,
In fact my customer have a request more useful. He would like to have all group list (like primary curve and cross curve for through curve mesh) expanded by default when editing a feature.

Didier

I can't help but ask, but why would someone close the Primary and Cross Curve sections of the Surface Through Curve Mesh dialog, since those are the ONLY two sections which MUST be open when creating this particular Surface type? Therefore if they are not closed, they will by definition be open when you perform an edit.

I suspect that your users are failing to appreciate the fact that many dialogs have so many options and settings that it's both impractical and often unneeded to have ALL of the dialog sections open at any one time. For example, most all of the Surface function have a 'Preview' and a 'Settings' section, yet user will very rarely ever need to change any of the options or settings found in those 2 sections, so why would someone want them to 'automatically open' whenever they edited a surface?

Hi John

Here is an example:
Create a part then create a through curve mesh
Open this part on another station
Try to edit the through curve mesh
You should agree that the dialog could be collapsed
So, we need the list group to be opened automatically (have a look at the given jpeg file)
