Hi there,
It's my first time to hold a meeting to brainstrom the DFMEA.

But I have no experience before.
Could you share some method how to arrange other department persons to attend the meeting and make the meeting actively and effeciently to the new project.

sorry for my vague description. but many thanks.
Looking for your response.

Hello vitamind,

I've waited quite a while before replying, in case someone with more experience in DFMEA would answer. Anyway, although the recommended approach is to send the related people (design, structural analysis, thermal analysis, materials guys, etc.) a draft of your work (functional of piece-part FMEA, depending on what design stage you're at) and give them a week or two to review the document before the meeting, my experience is that they would never read it. So, in order for your meeting to be efficient, in addition to calling this meeting, I would call them one by one to try to hold 1-2 hour individual meetings to go through the draft FMEA.

This way, you ensure that you have included their comments, and that you have highlighted the failure modes/mechanisms to which they need to provide mitigations.

Make sure that they feel included in the process, and at the end maybe they will also understand that a complete design is achievable by defining how the designed product may fail (your job), in addition to defining how it would function (their job).

Cheers,

Murat

Good answer Murat, although the joint nature of the meeting (when well organised) can be more powerful than the sum of the parts (meetings with individuals).

Re-reading your post i see that you say "in addition to" the joint meeting, the danger is that individuals may say that having invested x hours on a one to one they may feel that they do not need to attend the joint meeting!

I declined to answer because if you google dfmea (no other search terms) the first hit you get is wikipedia and the second is this which should answer most of the OP's questions.

As to how to get other people to attend the meeting, hmmm, big stick or boss with big stick?

Kind regards, HM
