How to keep trash from getting in air valves?

I have a problem with my versa air valves "sticking" inside my trimmer at a saw mill. I know that trash is usually the culprit for the failure of the valve. My question is: Is there a better way of mounting air valves, Should I install an 12" long airline between the sub-plate and bleed control, If you have a 1/2" valve is it ok to use a 3/8" bleed control, Or is there a better manufacture that can handle fine saw dust particles?

AT 145 PSI

A 3/8" valve can pass 28,000 cubic feet of air every second.

A 1/2" valve can pass 42,000 cubic feet of air every second.

Unless the control valve is working at it's limit there should not be a problem using the 3/8" bleed valve.

To prolong valve life...do the following.

Make sure that the compressor intake filters are clean.
Make sure the in-line filters are working.
Make sure the dryer is working.
Don't install valves at the bottom of a drop leg.
If the valve operates at a high frequency, it is a good idea to lubricate it.

Perhaps the most important thing...Make sure the exhaust ports on the valve subplate are protected with a breather. Especially in a saw mill.

Do these things and you should not have a problem.
