How to make an 'Ice Light Bulb' with maximum life?

I want to make a bulb using ice. My idea is to trap light somehow (using a led or solar power) in the ice sphere probably by putting light source in distilled water and then freezing it. After that, insulating that ice sphere using some common and inexpensive insulator or by creating vacuum around it so that loss of energy in a form other than light is stopped....please suggest a solution.

It's kind of anticlimactic when posts in the Optics Forum are beyond technically challenging (how's that for PC?) since posts are somewhat infrequent. Does anyone know of other forums that are geared towards lighting / optics that are not software specific so I can read while my computer is number crunching? Sorry if I've taken this thread off topic. Imagine your're reading this in a vacuum within an ice sphere....

Probably not, since most other forums have a pretty high threshold for deletable postings. This site tends to get rid of most of the obviously bad postings, which is unusual compared to many other sites. The science and math sections of Yahoo Answers are somewhat tolerable, but the posters range from 6-yr-olds on up.

Thanks for the link IRstuff. I know what you are saying about deletable stuff on other forums (postings for Rx's, etc). I'll check out the physicsforums and otherwise just surf for what might interest me.
