How to make components of an assembly fixed to each other but not the assembly itself?

Hi!


I have an assembly composed by 3 components. I did 2 mates to fix the two components to the other one.

However, if I try to move the assembly together, as one, the 3 parts with displace and scatter from the set.


How can I make components of an assembly fixed relatively to each other but not the assembly itself as a whole?


I am using SolidWorks 2018

It sounds like your parts are not fully mated to each other. Usually it takes three mates to fully mate two parts. A typical example: a coincident mate, a concentric mate, and a parallel mate. If any one of the three is missing you can still move one part relative to the other.

Also, in a typical assembly the first part is fixed and will not move unless you change it to floating. So, when all your other parts are fully mated to the first one, they will not move either.

Please go through the tutorials. Don't skip any. You will have a much better experience with SolidWorks if you get a good base understanding of the program rather than just trying to click around on things.

"Lock" mate positions components to each other without fixing. Move one = move all.
