Hello. I am really new to SAP2000 and I was told to model this jetty structure. I don't really know how I could connect stacked beams. Should I try rigid links or should I release moment?

I am not sure if the beams are stacked . I understand that the dark colored slab is CIP over the precast filigran plates a and precast girders. The dark grey beams CIP beams in transversal direction.

If the beams stacked , you may model the two beams with rigid links . But apparently this is not the case.

Provide more info. ( Beam details, slab details etc) to get better responds.

He is like a man building a house, who dug deep and laid the foundation on the rock. And when the flood arose, the stream beat vehemently against that house, and could not shake it, for it was founded on the rock..

How do you want the beam modeled? Should the two stacked beams behave compositely? Alternatively, do they deflect downward the same amount but are not composite?

If they're composite, then compute the transformed moment of inertia and define a General frame section and represent the stacked beams by one frame element.

If they're not composite, then you have two options:

1. Define a general frame section with MOI equal to the sum of the MOIs of the two beams. Ignore parallel-axis terms, in other words.

2. Add two frame elements at their respective centroid elevations. Define a mass-less rigid link. Add vertical rigid links between the two beams at some spacing, say the 1/8 points. Make each end of each rigid link hinged.
