Does Autocad open OK by it's self? If so how did you go about associating the file? If not, what is the error message when you try to open Autocad?

Try this:
In Windows Control Panel, open the System item to open the the System Properties dialog box.
On the Advanced tab, choose Environment Variables.
In the Environment Variables dialog box, under System variables, choose New to open the New System Variable dialog box.
In the Variable Name box, enter ACADCFG.
In the Variable Value box, enter the location of the configuration (CFG) file.
Choose OK in each dialog box to close all open dialog boxes.
Good Luck!

the error it gives me states: This file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action. create an association in the folder options control panel. i tried this and it appears as though it should work.

Dude,

When you go into the ....
(pull down) TOOLS>FOLDER OPTIONS>FILE TYPE
Skroll down to DWG
Go to to properties for the DWG extension.
Go to the more advance section .... (may differ from NT to 2000)

But in either case ... highlight "Open"
Go to edit the "OPEN"
Under "Application used to open" ... it should say ...
.
"C:\Acad2000\acad.exe" "%1"
.
(With the quotes)
.
Try that!

Hi Guys,

You can also deactivate the "use DDE" setting under the advanced settings of 'file types'. Even though the setting might default back to use the dde settings, for some reason this seems to fit the bill.

Also (refrencing a previous comment) I could not find the ACADCFG file in the ACAD2002 folders.

2002 definately has a few pain in the neck issues to either try to get around, or just deal with.

Good Luck All!
Jeff

Do the following which can be found in your windows help menu.

To associate a file extension with a file type

Open Folder Options in Control Panel.
Click the File Types tab.
Click New.
Type a new or existing file name extension, and then click Advanced. (ie .dwg)
In File type, click New to create a new file type that is associated with the file name extension. Or, click one of the existing file types.

Once you have done that I suggest rebooting your PC

Yes ... I did ... thanks for asking.
