The manual implies that you can erase the program and password using the HMI. You can not (at least not in the 3rd generation). But you can erase the program and password by connecting with the SG2 LAD program (relay ladder editing program for the SG2).

So if your problem is you forgot your password, or the original programmer has moved on without leaving his password, or someone simply typed in a random password on the night shift, because you never set it, the following procedure will un-brick the SG2. It will not help you if you don't have a copy of the existing program, and want to view it. THIS WILL ERASE THE PROGRAM and the password.

Start the SG2 LAD program on your PC or Mac (running Windows virtual machine or bootcamp).

Load an empty or previously created ladder program.

Select menu Operation-Link Com Port.. to establish communication.

Select menu Operation-Write. A password dialog box will appear.

Check the CLEARALL box and press OK rather than entering your password.

This will overwrite the existing program with whatever you had loaded in the editor and erase the password.
