hi, I am designing a shear wall for a 1 storey residential building.
there are two wooden post at Porch having moment load 6463(ft-lb)each one.
what is the best things to apply to withhold this moment load?
(we have MPB88Z moment post base Simpson having capacity only 4560(ft-lb).
I am new to shear wall design, so, please be kind to explain me with the basic.
thank you

Some plan sketches and sections would help. What's the lateral system for the porch? Is that where the moment is coming from? Could you just detail the porch diaphragm to transfer the loads into the main building lateral system?

Here I am confused by your question. You mention shear walls twice but then your talking about cantilever columns holding a porch. Is your question about cantilever columns or shear walls?

All

Sheeting the ceiling would push all the loads to the main diaphragm correct.
