HOW TO SELECT PIPES AND FITTINGS MATERIAL FOR GAS PIPE LINE WORK

Good Day,

How to select piping and fittings materails for Gas Pipe line , if the design conditions are given like Design temperature and Design Pressure.
If the medium change like if there is preheater we use water as medium, so the piping material change or not ?

Use the pipespec. for Your Fluid.

Determine corrosivity of fluid, select material, calculate diameter required for intended flow conditions. If carbon steel is selected, calculate minimum wall for low strength material like API 5LX-42. If wall calcs > standard, calculate again for higher strength steel, like X60. It is assumed that the preheater is a heat exchanger, gas on tube side, water on shell side or vice versa so water does not contact gas and the temperature is not much above ambient. Gas will cool with distance from preheater so no material is change would be expected. Don't know why you would preheat gas before flowing into a pipeline, unless gas were initially very cold (below freezing, which would affect metallurgy required for toughness.

When they don't have specs over there, they should better hire a piping expert.
