Hi all,
I need to analyze a steel cable wrapped (dead wraps)around an aluminium drum. The cable is anchored to the a set screw in a chamfer, and the set screw is attached to another rigid body. A load is applied to the end of the cable and I have to find out if the set screw will yield or not. Friction will give some mechanical advantage but after a point, the cable will be so stiff that friction will not play a part and the load will be transferred to the drum. Is there any way to assign the cable stiffness in the tangential and radial direction? I know that the stiffness in the tangential direction will be much greater than that in the radial direction, but how to tell ansys WB to take that into account.
I have attached a picture of the system. Please take a look and help me. Wild ideas are always welcome.
Thank You.
