How to size temporary generators

I need to order a generator for a 60amp service, 110/220 single phase, four wire application.

What is correct Kw genset or how do I calculate Kw?

You need to determine your motor starting kW -- that's roughly 6x motor FLA. Make sure that does not overload the generator motor starting kW.

You also need to take into account any harmonic loads -- fluorescent lights, computers, VFD's, etc. So long as harmonic loads are less than about 50% of generator rating, you should be OK.

Then check your total kW load against the generator kW rating.

Your generator vendor would likely give you free assistance with this. Otherwise, check out the generator websites for applications literature & software for assistance. Failing all that, hire an engineer.

Suggestion: Please, would you elaborate on the service amps since the 60A might be related to 220V, leading to:
220V x 60A = 13200VA
or to 110V and 220V, leading to:
220V x 60A = 13200VA
and
120V x 60A = 7200VA
total = 20400VA

If you don't know how to calculate kW, you better get a local electrical engineer or the generator representative to help you select your generator. Be ready to describe actual loads that are connected to the generator, such as motors,lights and etc.
