This is a question on thermal cracking.
I need to crack a TRIMER (explosive)which has a decomposition temp of 130 C. When this TRIMER is made into a 40% soln using DIETHYL MELONATE, the decomposition temp is 240 C and is quite stable. The solvent ( ie Diethyl malonate has a B.P of 198 C)
Now the cracked product has a B.P of 298 C.
Can this charge be suspended from top of a vertical pipe? (say 1"NB),(as in without contact with the pipe surface?) and maintain the atmosphere at abt 250 C. Will the cracking take place on its way down)? Is so, how to calculate the length of the pipe required ? (ANY OTHER SUGGESTIONS 4 THE DESIGN)? I'am lookin for a charge oF only about 1 kg/hr.(labscale)
mOST IMPORTANT OF ALL CAN WE USE vacuum SO AS TO REDUCE THE TEMPERATURE, and in that case will decomposition take place ??? And is it safe ???
