How to use the principle of superposition of fields reasonably?

A simple concept of vector superposition or decomposition:

Let's take an example:

A pulsating vector could be decomposed into two rotating vectors like:

Who could tell which picture shows the correct superposition or decomposition of the pulsating field?

I would assume this might be a single phase motor. The difference in the two diagrams is whether you orient the beginning of the vector at the center of the circle or at the airgap.
