Hello All
How can I model an elastic-plastic material under uniform tension that faces fracture after reaching ultimate tensile stress? I want to visualize the fracture occurrence in deformed contours. Suppose there is no initial crack. Should I choose damage models? And, Should it be implicit or explicit?

Thanks

I think as you said that there are damage initiation and evolution models in abaqus that you could probably use. Have a look on the documentation. Depending on the model used you can have it in standard/static or explicit or implicit dynamics (so depends if quasi static or you if you have a dynamic event). Again the documentation and papers on the internet will describe this. Also abaqus benchmark s should have damage model tests. If not, contact them and ask for model benchmark and verification of some.

One probably needs also to get damage parameters for the damage models to enter in abaqus (just like any material model). Perhaps there are some for standard steel that one can see ànd find on the internet.

Otherwise tests need to be done and very likely one would need to tune the fea model to the test. Mesh sensitivity would need to be checked.

Once verified one can look on damaged and elements deleted due to damage. Again the documentation should explain.

Not sure if this helps. You probably know this. But I do not know much about this.

Best of luck.
