hello everyone, one question how can I prove that steel column embedded on 1' deep concrete will act a fixed support or something closed to a fixed support? Thanks for your help

You probably can't. 1' isn't much of a grade beam. Are you trying to claim fixity for lateral load resistance or merely to justify k=0.7 axial capacity?

I like to debate structural engineering theory -- a lot. If I challenge you on something, know that I'm doing so because I respect your opinion enough to either change it or adopt it.

You have two options: 1) AISC Seismic Design Manual 2nd ed. has an example for this condition Example 4.4.4, its for a full moment frame; 2) PCI Design Handbook 7th ed. has design example for a steel corbel. What is the purpose of the HSS?
