Hi I'm new to this board and need help with info on the pro's and con's of these two types of machine builders.
I'm consulting at this new start-up company and I've been butting heads with a guy that was hired to decide on which machines to purchase.
The machines in question are the Nexus 510 VMC, Nexus Quick-Turn 250,
And the Hurco's VMX and the TM6 or 8.
Thank you for your help.

We use the Mazak Nexus VMC and QT lathe in our machine shop (prototype machine shop within the technical center of an automotive supplier). Both are considered good machines. We machine mostly steel parts, including a lot of turning of pre-hardened SAE 1035-1045 steel bars. Unfortunately, I cannot give you a comparison to the Hurco equipment. I figured half a data point was better than none...

I'm very familiar with the Mazaks and have worked with the VMC's, Quick-Turns and their flagship model the Integrex.
I feel that the Mazaks are superior to the Hurcos and that's why we're disagreeing.
I just need to find out more info from people that have used Hurcos bad or good.

Hi,I am a machine shop owner since 1978, a master tool and die maker, and a mechanical engineer. I would buy the mazak. You get what you pay for! The control is better and more reliable.
The machine is better built. Remember a machine is only as good as the people running it. Good luck. Harrya

The prime concern of any equipment purchase is the budget.
There is no comparison between the Hurco and the Mazak. Would you compare a Honda Civic to a Lexus ?
Again almost everything depends on your budget, how many shifts are you running , what is your ROI, are you going to lease the piece of equipment?
Identify your constraints, then decide on the machine.
If you need more feedback on the Hurco try visiting the mmsonline forums.

I am not sure about the Hurco, but we operate two Mazaks a CNC lathe and a CNC mill and we never have any downtime for machine problems. Go with the Mazak.
