Specifically referring to a Simpson "H1" and HGA10 hurricane tie:

What happens to the “F1” force when applied to an “H1” hurricane tie at a 45-degree configuration as in a gable end-wall?

What happens to the “F2” force when applied to an “HGA101” hurricane tie at a 45-degree configuration as in a gable end-wall?

Can I still get full published values?

I'm currently awaiting a reply from Simpson engineering. But, i thought i would get other opinions while waiting.

Thank you for your opinions...

Published values are valid only for the orientation in which they were tested and in accordance with the manufacturers installation instructions. If your installation deviates from that, the published values would not likely be valid.

Agreed with Ron but I would suggest you could take the vector sum of the F1 and F2 resistances to get an approximate horizontal and vertical resistance. Keep it slightly conservative and I would suspect it would be acceptable.

The values quoted are for parallel and perpendicular to the plate and I would expect them to remain unchanged.

I like to debate structural engineering theory -- a lot. If I challenge you on something, know that I'm doing so because I respect your opinion enough to either change it or adopt it.

Certainly, you may need a means of transmitting in plane diaphragm shear to the wall other than the clips. But then that's true in the zero degree orientation as well.

Thank you all for your comments.

I should have further explained that i understand that Simpson would not stand behind any published values once we alter the situation. What i really needed was opinions of what values i could obtain in the altered state. Basically, i need to do the math myself.

All other suggestions, please refer to my thread507-410624

Thank you!
