I am looking for any feedback from people using a contact type of voltage tester at voltages > 1 kv. The intent is for confirmation of isolation. What do you use? Have you tried any other contact type tester? What voltage range is this tester used upon? Any feedback on ease of use, reliability, etc would be appreciated.

Presently, we use a non-contact tester. We are considering supplementing this test with a contact type test if the non-contact indicated no voltage.

Edgcumbe have a decent range of proven designs:

We've had one of the 33kV types for years and it has proven very reliable in use. We bought a smaller (15kV or so?) one more recently in response to requests for something less clumsy for use on the MV switchgear and it too has proven a good instrument.

Helps if you say which country, or at least which continent, you're on when asking for recommendations.
