Hey Guys,

What weld callout do you usually show for your headed weld studs to embed plate?

I usually dont.
Isn't this an industry standard thing where the weld is sufficient to develop the strength of the stud?

AWS D1.1 has specific requirements for stud welding, I believe. It's either done using a weld gun that actually fuses the base of the stud onto the base metal, or there's an alternate allowance for a fillet weld. Personally, if it's small quantity where I'm not confident that the shop will understand the work, I'll sometimes just call out that I want it performed as a full fusion stud weld as per AWS D1.1 and then call out a fillet weld alternate with a size right on the drawing. That size will be enough to develop the stud. Then if they're inexperience in that type of work or don't have a qualified procedure they'll just go ahead and do the fillet.
