I am looking into the feasibility of removing a visible water vapour plume from a stack. I don't know if this has been done before, but it appears to me to be not dissimilar to the concept of plume removal from cooling towers, as described at .

Does anyone know the basic design criteria for doing this, i.e. how hot does the outlet stream have to be in order for there to be no visible plume from the top? What are the factors this depends on?

why would you want to achieve such a goal ? I would be interested in retrieving the steam vapour leftover energy for internal heating consumption , in order to reduce the overall energy bill.

It could be done and has been done but it takes lots of Btus to do it. Many powerplants use stackgas reheating after flue gas desulfurization systems to improve the bouyancy of the gases. But the energy cost of this is starting to justify the use of wet stacks which are specifically designed to deal with the acidic stak gases.

Cooling tower plume abatement is not cheap either.
